Three Greatest Treasures
Presently, with our nation’s fledgling economy, a lot of people may be focusing on money, wealth and treasure, or lack thereof! While my newest sermon series is about treasures, it is not what you think. This sermon does not have to do with tangible treasure per se, but it does focus on what I refer to as the “three greatest treasures.” These treasures are: the treasure of faith, the treasure of hope and the treasure of love. They are God’s priceless gifts to us. Webster’s dictionary defines treasure as “something of great wealth or value.” But how do you determine value? Determining value is important because it is what separates trash from treasure. This sermon will show you the value of these “three greatest treasures.” The Bible is a book of treasures; St. Paul calls the scriptures “the unsearchable riches of God.” In scripture, there are three priceless treasures that can revolutionize every area of your life, your business and your marriage; it will give you the ability to accomplish your dreams with a confidence that your future will be blessed of God. In the first sermon, this series discusses the treasure of faith. The Word says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. But why is this? Everything that God offers to mankind in the Bible comes by faith. Faith is the currency of Heaven. The Word says that faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we cannot see. But going to God without faith is an absolute waste of time. My favorite analogy is this: going to God without faith is like going to the store without money. Without money, you cannot leave with anything and the trip is in vain. Similarly, without faith, when you approach God, you will never achieve what you are asking for because you do not believe you can achieve it. Next, this series speaks of God’s gift to the believer, the gift of hope. As the prophet Jeremiah writes in verse 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord… they are plans for your good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” The point of that verse is this: 1) God has an exact plan that is tailor-made for you; 2) That plan is for your good; and 3) that plan not only gives you a future, but also a hope to achieve that future! This sermon will show you that it is not possible to be a follower of Jesus Christ and not have contagious hope that is given by God almighty, our blessed hope. Your hope should be contagious because a God-given hope generates an enthusiasm and an excitement that produces a joy that the world cannot give nor take away. While going to God without faith is pointless, so living a life without hope is similarly meaningless. If you take away hope, then life, even with all of its fascinating possibilities, is reduced to mere existence. Without hope, life is a bleak, drab and a never-ending ride of joylessness. So, as St. Paul writes, we are to be joyful in hope! No matter what, with God-given hope, a Christian can look at the future and confidently say, “The best is yet to be.” The last treasure in this sermon series is “the love of God.” Not only does God almighty give us the gift of His love, as Christians, we are also to learn from that perfect love and love others in kindness. This sermon series will show you the principles of God’s love and how to put those principles to practice in your own life. The love of God goes beyond measure. For example, God “so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son,” despite the fact that we are a world crippled with sin, God looked at us through the eyes of love and redeemed us. The Word of God says that “God is love and they that have not love, have not God.” So, do you view others through the eyes of love? Love is so powerful that our worlds are shaped by those who love us and those who do not love us. Can you imagine your world without the love of God? When God looks at us, through the eyes of love, He sees a treasure; He does not see our past, He sees our potential. God’s love is a divine flood. God’s love is not conditional. God does not love us “if ” we do this or “because” we do that or “in spite” of who we are. God’s love is so deep for us, the Word describes it as having flooded our hearts. Just as a flood spills into a dry valley and fills it with life-giving water, so the love of God brings vitality and hope into our once arid lives. A dry valley is worthless, but once it is filled with water it becomes a destination of endless opportunity. In that same way, when the love of God floods your life, your potential explodes. Is your life empty and dry? Do you feel like your life is lived without meaning and joy? Then you need to be flooded with the rich, life-changing, never-failing love of God. This sermon series will also explain misconceptions about God’s love. Some misconstrue the love of God and use it to manipulate others to condone their ungodly behavior under the auspices of “God is love.” While God is love, let us not forget that our loving God sent the great flood to Noah’s generation, sent Israel into captivity and sent His only begotten son to die on a cross. Make no mistake; if God judged His own son, then He will most certainly judge us. Finally, this sermon series will teach you about the four dimensions of God’s love. For instance, the length of God’s love is eternal. At times our carnal minds may have a hard time grasping the concept of everlasting to everlasting because of what we may be dealing with in the present. The good news is that God can see our future and no matter what we are facing, He knows what is coming next. What is happening in your life today has not taken God by surprise. To know the love of God is Heaven on earth. Where were you when God found you? Were you broken? Were you battered, empty and scarred by sin and shame? God’s love bathes you in the glow of His presence, washing your sins and past away, and it is there that hope was born. Have you experienced that love? Do you know that hope? I know this sermon series will help you uncover these treasures of hope, faith and the love of God like never before. So get this sermon series and start living a life filled with these three priceless treasures. Three Greatest Treasures Everything God has to offer man in the Bible comes on the wings of faith.
