Truth From The Trees

The Bible declares, “Thy Word is truth.” Paul told Timothy, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.” I want to share with you the truth from three trees that are found in the Word of God: The Tree of Sovereignty, The Tree of Humility and The Tree of Triumph.

All of these powerful declarations in God’s Word impact your everyday life. We see His divine sovereignty and providence demonstrated over and over again in such masterful ways that it is beyond the ability of man to understand the majestic wisdom of the Almighty.

The more we discover and learn, the more we realize just how small we really are and how truly awesome God really is.

What I’ve come to know from studying the Word of God is that the Word is all God’s and the Word is all good and what is inside the Word of God is all yours by request in the name of Jesus Christ.

The first tree is the Tree of Sovereignty, the second, the Tree of Humility and the third is the Tree of Triumph. I want you to hear and understand this powerful declaration of God’s power and see how it impacts your life.

The Tree of Sovereignty is a tree that God planted in Genesis and a tree that without which none of us would be here today. This Tree of Sovereignty is one that Adam never saw and Jesus Christ never touched while He was on the earth. But, this tree connects them and each and every Believer today.

Our Lord is sovereign. Throughout the pages of God’s Word, we see His divine sovereignty and His providence demonstrated over and over again, in such masterful ways, that it is beyond the ability of man to understand the majestic wisdom of the Almighty. In fact, the more we discover and learn, the more we realize how small we are and how truly awesome God is. In Psalm 147:4-5, the Word says, “He counts the number of the stars and He calls them by name...great is our Lord...His understanding is infinite.” It is from descriptions and truths such as these that we have come to call Jehovah God, “The Sovereign Lord.”

To say He is sovereign, means He is supreme, and our Lord is supreme. He is supreme in power and can do what no one else can do. Our God is supreme in knowledge and wisdom. In Romans 11:33, the Word says, “Oh the depth of riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God...how unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out.” This Scripture discusses the attempts of man to try and understand why God does what He does, which is simply something that man’s mind is incapable of knowing.

I do not know why God would unconditionally love someone, a sinner like me, who was so unlovable. I do not know why He would sacrifice His own Son just to have a relationship with me. Why, in His amazing grace, would He wash my sins of scarlet and make me as white as snow? I do not know the answer to any of these questions, but what I do know is that I am glad God did what He did.

When I try to grasp His sovereign plan, I am at such a loss. But, when I put my trust in the fact that His plan will work out for my good, even though I cannot understand it, I have peace that surpasses all understanding to know that all things work together for the good.

This faith comes from the understanding that God does not see things like we do. We see things for what they are, and thank God - the Sovereign Lord - sees things for what they can become.

For instance, man may say that you are, “washed up” and “finished.” But our Sovereign Lord looks at you and says, “We have only just begun.” He sees your insufficiency and says, “I am more than enough.” He looks at your sorrow and turns it into joy. He looks at barrenness and sees abundance. You may think you just have some boy’s sack lunch, but He sees a banquet feast for 5000.

Have you ever pictured something in your mind, imagined what you expected to see and then when you finally saw it, it was anything but what you thought it would be? Similarly, there are times when our Sovereign God fails our expectations. There are times when His children expected a mighty deliverer, and instead, God sent a baby in a basket floating down the river. Or, when His children expected a giant killer, God sent a young shepherd boy with a slingshot. When His children were looking for the Messiah, who can provide, heal, redeem and restore, God sent a Carpenter from Nazareth to the Cross at Calvary.

In all of these ways, the Lord failed His children’s expectations. But in failing to give His children what they expected, He really gave them so much more. The Word of God says, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men...and the weakness of God is stronger than man.” God is too wise to make a mistake and He is too good to be unkind. Thank the Lord for giving us what He wants us to have instead of fulfilling our limited expectations.

In that same way, there are those of you that are presently walking through a personal financial storm. You may be thinking, “This cannot be right. I asked God for more and now I’m living on less.” You may say to yourself, “I was praying for a promotion, but now I am out of work. This cannot be right, this is not for me, and this is not what I expected.”

When trials like this happen, so many of us feel the need to take matters into our own hands. We feel we are being supernaturally attacked. We start to fast; we start to break generational curses. We start to think; “this must be someone else’s fault because I’m doing everything right and not getting the results I want to get!”

The Word of the Lord says, “wait on the Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart.” Matthew 6:34 says, “Do not worry about tomorrow...” you may not know what tomorrow holds, but you know Who holds tomorrow.

Our God has promised you more than enough, so do not be discouraged or dismayed because He has not forgotten you nor will He forsake you.

Your situation may appear to be a helpless baby in a basket today, but give that baby some time and he will be a mighty deliverer with a rod in hand tomorrow. He may look like a scrawny shepherd, but give him some time, he will be a powerful king someday. He may look like a crucified criminal in the eyes of Rome, like a fallen leader to the disciples and an eliminated threat to the Pharisees, but give Him 3 days and He will be the Champion of Calvary and the Risen Son of the living God.

Today, it may appear that you are facing the greatest test you have ever been through. But the Sovereign Lord is faithful from generation to generation. His mercy is renewed every morning and His loving kindness is better than life. The Sovereign God will turn your trial into a great triumph and the burden that broke you will become a blessing.

This is just a glimpse, of the encouragement found in this series. I pray that you get this series and learn that no matter what you are currently facing, and no matter what you will face in the future, the Lord, in His infinite and perfect sovereignty cannot and will not fail you.
