Saudi Arabia takes this treasure of American money and brings it to America’s major universities. They offer to build beautiful buildings for millions of dollars on the condition that Saudi Arabia is permitted to select the professor in this new building who will teach Middle Eastern affairs. This professor is always a radical Wahabist who will teach your children that America and Israel are both evil. This is one of the educational tragedies in America where our own money is being used to destroy our own children.

The crisis in America’s education reaches into our high schools as well. This profound ignorance of our history is evidenced in a CBS survey where 75% of high school graduates in America could not name the last three American presidents.

On one occasion, I was speaking in Pittsburgh and was having a meal at Howard Johnson’s before speaking.

The young man who was waiting on my table was in his early 20’s and had a name tag “Johnson.” I asked him if he was related to the owner Howard Johnson. He laughed and said, “No way!”

“Are you working your way through college?” I asked.

He looked at me with a cold, hard stare that turned to tears. I waited for his painful thoughts to find a way to express themselves.

He looked me straight in the eye and said, “Mister, I am 23 years of age, I’m married and have a baby and I’m waiting on tables at Howard Johnson’s because I graduated from high school and cannot read or write.”

I was stunned!

He attended an American high school and was socially promoted simply because he went to school. The educational system in America failed this young man and millions more just like him.

I asked him, “What are you going to do to overcome this severe educational handicap?”

He replied, “I’m going to night school, five nights a week to learn to read and write. My wife and baby are counting on me.”

I complimented him on his courage to admit his situation and to work to achieve what the American educational system was supposed to have given him. The American educational problem reaches from coast to coast. The question is what to do to solve it.
