Every Sunday we meet in the A building rooms A110,111, and 112. The program is designed for individuals with special needs ages two and older. We have a sensory room, an arts and crafts room, and a worship and lesson room. Our students are engaged and comfortable during the service, as we rotate through each activity. We desire to create a venue that meets the specific learning and social needs of each attendee. Multi-sensory activities and other techniques are utilized to create a learning atmosphere that is appropriate for the unique abilities of each person.
Our special needs ministry children can also be integrated into the main children’s church programs available each weekend. The needs for each child are assessed on a case-by-case basis, and we work with each family to develop a plan that best suits their special needs child. The focus of the ministry is each individual’s ability, not their disability. For some, “buddies,” or trained leaders, are provided to assist kids.
If you have an individual with special needs who would like to be a part of the Special Needs Ministry, email the special needs coordinator Stephanie.firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
What we offer
Home group meetings are provided monthly. Our topics focus on issues related to raising a child with special needs. This setting allows parents to be real, as they come together to share with one another through struggle, laughter, and prayer.
The annual children’s ministry Vacation Bible School is held each June, and over 2,000 children around our city get to be part of this incredible event. The Special Needs Ministry hosts an inclusion VBS, which provides opportunities for students with special needs ages 5-12 to participate in the EPIC ministry event. Buddies, or trained volunteers, partner with the students to facilitate the activities for the day. An interview process with the parents takes place in order to make sure the child will be safe and have a good time as he is integrated with other children during this full-day event.
Day Camps and Respites will be coming soon!
The purpose of the Special Needs Ministry is to impart the Word of God in the hearts of all individuals in an engaging and understandable manner, teaching them to love, know, and honor God. All service positions require a current background check and team training. Sign up to volunteer on our church web site at www.sacornerstone.org/volunteer. Volunteers are always needed for these areas: buddies for children and students, home group leaders, respite night, and day camp volunteers.
If you’re planning on visiting us this weekend, we look forward to meeting you and having your kids attend our children’s service!
Here’s what you need to know:
Before your children attend their first service with us we will need to get some basic family information.
Fill out the registration form and complete it before your first visit.
Or you can fill one out at check-in once you arrive.
We have a visitor check-in location located in the Bythel Hagee Life Center. Simply ask the greeters at the door for directions. At check-in, you’ll receive a name tag for each child as well as a security tag that will match up to your child’s name tag for pick-up at the end of the service.
A volunteer will be available to answer any questions and will direct or escort you to your child’s service.
Your child is our priority. The security tag is used by our staff to ensure your child’s well-being. If the tag is lost, a staff member will ask for a valid ID before you can pick-up. Your patience is appreciated as this extra step secures the safety of your child.
